Traffic Congestion on Route 17 Addressed
A government study of a proposed project to improve transportation on a stretch of Route 17 is soliciting feedback from the public. This is the first time in 30 years the county thinks there is an opportunity to make progress on the highway. Motorists (especially residents of Paramus, Rochelle Park, and Maywood) will be able to view and submit comments on a proposed project to improve safety, mobility, and travel-time reliability on a Route 17 corridor that is rated one of the worst bottlenecks in the state.
A virtual presentation will be available online at Tiny.cc/Rt17BottleneckVPIC until February 2 to view to learn more about the study. The county received an $870,000 grant from the state to refreshen the study and submit it back to the department of transportation for review by the spring after receiving public input.
The proposed improvements include a third travel lane; replacement of six and four new bridge retaining walls; new exit ramps; new signalized intersections; electric and communications utility relocations; new stormwater management basins; and local street connectivity improvements.
