We All Need a Life Filled with Awe
~ Wayne Dyer ~
You know that feeling you get when you see, hear or listen to something that makes you feel tingly inside or smile or just feel at peace. That’s the feeling of awe. Awe can be found all around us—in the biggest or smallest of things—and can be and should be seen by each of us every day. Whether it’s the spectacular golden hue of the NYC skyline, a singular flower bursting through the concrete sidewalk, listening to the harmonic rhythm of rain on the roof, watching a child take their first steps, dogs playing, a vintage car siting, an incredible work of art or anything else that gives you chills, awe is worth the effort.
We’re in a transformative time following the shutdown of our world during the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, more random shootings, and the highest levels of stress, anxiety and depression in history. If we don’t have awe in our lives, we need to find it. Not only does it make us happier, there are health benefits as well, including reduced inflammation. Higher levels of inflammation have been linked to higher incidence of chronic illness and dis-ease. Dacher Keltner, founder of the Greater Good Science Center and psychology professor at University of California, Berkeley notes that “determining where we find awe, can point us in a direction of what we care about and help us to find our sense of purpose.” Finding purpose is huge.
I encourage each of you to find your awe and see where it leads. Not only will it be good for your health, but for your big picture happiness/purpose as well. We are all very fortunate to be in a position to “choose”; acknowledging this in gratitude and humility opens each and every door to all that is hopeful.
In gratitude,
