Offering a balanced approach to health and wellness sums up the office of Dr. Rebecca Chang, DACM, L.Ac, offering Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, and Cupping and Nutrition Counseling using Chinese Medicine. Dr. Chang will be on maternity leave with a tentative return date of September 16, 2022. In this interim, appointments are available with her colleague, Gabriella Sahyoun, L.Ac, MSTOM. In addition to Dr. Chang’s services, Dr. Sahyoun also offers Gua Sha and Moxibustion.

Gua sha is an ancient therapy where a practitioner uses various instruments to gently “scrape” well lubricated skin until therapeutic petechiae (or “sha”) appear. Like cupping, this produces an anti-inflammatory and immune protective effect to the body. Gua sha can be used for immediate relief of pain, stiffness, fever, chills, cough, sore throat, etc.

Moxibustion is Chinese Medicine therapy where heat is applied to certain points on the body in order to warm it, remove stagnation and improve circulation. The Chinese herb Artemisia vulgaris is used to produce this warming material (known as “moxa”). The wool from the leaves of this herb is used to make moxa cones or sticks. Moxa can be applied to the body directly, on top of an acupuncture needle, or from a distance using a moxa stick. It produces a pleasant and warming sensation and is often used to enhance the effect of acupuncture treatments.

Dr. Sahyoun shares, “Clinically, I have experience treating musculoskeletal and pain conditions, fertility and women’s health, hormonal imbalances, digestive, auto-immune and mental health disorders. I work with everyone, including the elderly, professional athletes and teenagers.

“I believe that you deserve the highest quality healthcare from a caring professional. I strive to meet you where you are in life, provide a listening ear, and investigate the root cause of your issue. I utilize an integrative approach, combining modern biomedicine with the ancient principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I hope to provide a healing space for you to become a healthier and happier individual.”
