Massage Releases Oxytocin, the ‘Love Hormone’
Massage doesn’t just make our muscles feel good, says Maria Klejmont, owner of Ariana Day Spa, in Bayonne. It makes our “hearts” feel good too, by releasing oxytocin, known as the love hormone.
“Oxytocin increases feelings of social bonding and well-being,” she says. “It also helps increase serotonin and dopamine, making it a perfect choice for your special someone this Valentine’s Day.”
Ariana Day Spa offers a variety of massage types, including its signature massage, deep-tissue sport massage and hot stone massage. Gift cards from the spa are a popular Valentine’s Day present, Klejmont says. Customers will also book a spa day for their partner or schedule a couple’s massage session. Because the spa offers esthetic and nail services too, customers preparing for a Valentine’s night out can book a signature facial or mani-pedi. Other services offered include reiki and energy healing.
Having worked as a massage therapist for 18 years before opening her own spa, Klejmont says she’s seen the restorative benefits of massage, and she wanted Ariana Day Spa to be a place where men and women could enjoy luxury services at affordable prices.
