To Succeed, Change Inner Monologue
Kelly Bonell
Our inner monologue can have a big influence on whether we succeed in life, says Kelly Bonell, owner of Rise Coaching, based in West New York. The best strategy is to let go of “limiting beliefs,” the things we tell ourselves that put limitations and obstacles on what we believe is possible.
“These are tiny, subconscious thoughts that sneak in and tell you something that is actually a lie,” she explains. “Some common examples are I’m not smart enough, Bad things always happen to me, I’m not qualified for that position, or All the good ones are taken.”
Bonell says these beliefs are actually just assumptions based on our perceptions of life experiences—beliefs we created to protect ourselves. That works for a while, but eventually they hold us back.
“In order to rise to new levels of success, your beliefs need to be as close to reality as possible,” she says. “Consider what you want to believe about what is true and possible for you, and then forge your new path towards success. If you think you can, you will.”
