Volunteer Cleanups Set for Jersey City
Clean Green Jersey City is organizing neighborhood cleanups on several Saturdays in December and January, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., weather permitting. Volunteers can show up at any time. The events are family friendly and socially distanced, and students will receive community service hours.
Cleanup dates are as follows:
Sun, December 6: New York Avenue, on the hill between the Heights and Hoboken (meetup location corner of New York and Ravine Avenues)
Sat, December 12: Corner of Summit and Cornelison Avenues, near Bergen-Lafayette and McGinley Square
Sat, December 19: Brunswick Street in downtown Jersey City (meetup location corner of Brunswick Street and Christopher Columbus Drive)
Sat, January 9: Underpass of Route 1-9 on Newark Avenue, near Journal Square (meetup location corner of Wallis Avenue and Broadway)
Karam Thapar, of Clean Green Jersey City, says the group’s long-term goal is to turn the project into a year-round event, and to expand it to include all of Jersey City, as well as Hoboken and Union City. “These are ambitious goals, but we are better together in numbers, and we believe if we work together we can turn this around quickly,” he says.
